If you were allowed to listen to music while you were racing, would you want to?
DD: I’m probably 50/50… the racecar driver in me loves the sound of the engine and I rely on my ears at times to know where my shifting points are. On the other hand it would be pretty cool!
What kind of music would you listen to?
DD: If I was listening while driving it would be some old school punk rock. Pennywise, NOFX, Greenday… something like that.
Where did your first paycheck come from?
DD: First paycheck…. from my early days starting out in the car business. My first job was washing cars.
Who is an autograph you got as a kid that seemed to be a big deal to you at the time?
DD: Mario Andretti
Where’s a place you’ve never been that you’d like to go visit?
DD: I’m sometimes accused of being one-track minded. Right now I have a focus on getting to LeMans so let’s go with that…. LeMans, France
Do people ever accuse you of being addicted to your phone?
DD: No- I put a huge focus on phone manners.
If a genie promised you a championship in exchange for never being able to do your favorite hobby again, would you accept that offer?
DD: A championship in exchange to never race again? No thanks Genie- I’ll get one on my own eventually…
What’s your preferred method of dealing with an angry driver after a race?
DD: I try to soften situations with a sense of humor whenever I can. I’m not the fighting type.
Have you had to take anyone to dinner recently?
DD: Had to, or get to??? I love taking people to dinner. Especially my girl- Brooke.
Do you ever get mistaken for another driver or celebrity?
DD: No, but for some reason people always assume I’m from another country…
If you had a time machine and you could travel to any year and race, where would you go?
DD: 1978 Dutch Grand Prix- Mario Andrettis last win in F1, who was also the first American to win in F1. It’s also on my families home soil which I have not yet visited.
Would you rather have the ability to fly or be invisible?
DD: For sure flying! I’ve thought about that a lot….
